Roadshow Report, Sidley, 17 July 2005

by Mike Burn on July 18, 2005

Yesterday afternoon, Sue, Josie and I visited Sidley Baptist Church, near Bexhill in East Sussex, UK, on the south coast. It was a beautifully hot day, and the church there puts on an annual event for the local community, so we were doing the roadshow as part of the event. They run a weekly KidzKlub on a Saturday, so have made good links with lots of non-church kids and families, and of the hundred+ people that were there, a high proportion were not from the church.

Roadshow, Sidley, East Sussex

We did a fast-paced hour’s programme, including songs from the “Get into the Word” CD, dances, games, video clips and short bits of teaching mixed in. (For the first time ever I tried a simple magic trick to illustrate the empty tomb, which went well, and generated a round of applause, so I’ll give that a go again!) Jon & Tim from the church joined me in the band on drums and bass, and were excellent, and Josie sang and danced really well.

The reaction from the kids was great, and around 12 responded to the invitation to pray with a KidzKlub leader from the church and take away a “What is a Christian?” booklet. Do pray that those children come back and get invloved in the church and the KidzKlub.

There was then a “sausage sizzle” for everyone, and people stayed around and chatted, which helped make good links between the church and visitors, so a very successful format.

We popped in to see old friends Richard & Karen Collier-Keywood in Etchingham on the way home – they worked with us on the very first FW recording in 1993, which would not have happened without their support and vision, and it’s always good to see them, and catch up on growing families and news.
