Roadshow Report – Croyland Family Fun Day, 30 July 2005

by Mike Burn on July 31, 2005

Josie and I were really pleased to be involved again this year with the excellent “Family Fun Day” put on by Croyland Evangelical Church in Edmonton, north London. We were invited by our good friend, Pete Goldring, who worked for a couple of years with the youth in our church, and is much missed. (It’s such a shame that he left south London to move back to the foreign north – these Spurs fans have no discernment…)

Our main memory of last year’s event was torrential rain which nearly wiped out the afternoon, but it went ahead anyway, and the church certainly reaped the benefits this year, with hundreds of local residents attending. The rain was kind enough not to arrive until half an hour before the end this time!

As well as a wide range of fun stalls, a bouncy castle, Gladiators and Sumo Wrestling, the event featured a stage where we got the children dancing to a number of songs from “Get into the Word“, and also doing their own thing – singing songs, performing handstands or the spilts, and telling (terrible) jokes.

This kind of format of event is great to my mind – it is free, brings many different people together, and demonstrates that the local church is there for the benefit not just of members, but the wider local community. Well done to Croyland for putting all the effort into the event – a great afternoon.
