KidsOnly and **NEW** YouthZone Newsletter

The FW KidsOnly newsletter has been running for around 3 years now, so
some of the subscribers are now teenagers! As a consequence, we're
delighted to be launching a new YouthZone newsletter, which will be
aimed at teenagers, young adults, and those involved in youth work. The
newsletter will have a worship emphasis,  reviewing youth-oriented
worship CD's and bands, for example, but will also cover general youth
issues, eg. culture and church issues. Edited by Chris Juby (see below),
this newsletter promises to be fun, informative and challenging, so to
subsribe, simply send a blank email to or

Peace Child Christmas Cards & Interactive CD

We're very excited to be launching this month brand new Christmas Cards,
featuring scenes from the video "Peace Child", which was released last
year, and used very effectively by many churches in the UK and USA in
their Christmas services and outreach programmes.

The cards come in 6 different designs, and include an interactive CD,
that plays as a normal CD, featuring the song and backing track, and an
interactive section that can be viewed on a PC or Mac, with the video
(in various high and low res formats), copies of the lyrics, sheet music
and guitar chords, and a fun section for kids (and adults!) with
interactive games, and a jigsaw puzzle.

Ideal to give to Christian family and friends, the cards and CD are also
very suitable as a "low key" evangelistic tool - they are certified as
cringe free!

The cards can be ordered individually, or in packs of 6 (one of each
design) and are priced at 5 for 6 (including the CD) or 2.50 for 6
(without the CD).

Check the designs out at

Surplus from sale of the cards will go towards our Rwanda project (see

If you are considering buying a bulk quantity (24 or more cards) then
discount prices apply, and we will happily send you a free sample card
and CD - simply email your addressto

ALSO AVAILABLE - normal VHS videos (UK and USA formats available)
featuring the video of Peace Child.

Rwanda Recording

Many thanks to those of you who have been praying for the Rwanda album
(details at The children's
vocals were recorded in August, and the album is being mixed right now.
The tracks are sounding great, and the album is set for a December

Rwanda is onw of the poorest countries in the world, and also one that,
in recent times, has known unbelievable suffering from the 1994
genocide. Will you consider praying for a specific child involved in the
choir for the recording and album launch? You can sign up to do that at

You can also choose to sponsor the child - many of them are orphans, and
those that do have a family are unlikely to be able to afford even the
bus fare to reach the rehersal venue. Just 2 or $3 will help greatly!

(The sponsorship possiblity is totally optional, so please do sign up to
pray for a child, even if you are not able to give)

Thank you in advance for your partnership in this unique project!

Humour spot

A man dies and finds himself standing third in line at the Pearly Gates.
The Angel explains that admission requirements are now a bit more
strict, and depended on a decent annual salary.

He queries the first candidate:"What was your annual salary, and what
was your profession? "I made 150,000 as a Lawyer" comes the reply. "You
may enter" says the Angel.

Second candidate, same question. "I made 95,000, I was a Banker." He is
also permitted to enter. Now it is the third man's turn.

"My annual salary was 8,000." "Really?" replies the Angel, "and what
instrument did you play?"

Family Worship Expands

We're thrilled to announce that Chris Juby has now joined Family Worship
Resources on a part-time basis, to help develop the ministry further.
Chris has spent the last year on the "Radical Network" training course
in church planting with Ichthus Christian Fellowship, and has felt a
growing call to get involved in worship with youth and children.

Based in the FW office, Chris has taken on much of the day to day
administration and website development, and those of you who have
emailed or placed an order for resources recently will have noticed the
lightning fast response times that can now be enjoyed...!

Chris is an anointed and talented worship leader and songwriter, and
will be joining me on the FW Roadshows. Dates are being planned for 2003
at present, so if you are interested in a Roadshow for your church
(which can take the form of a Sunday service, or other event, and can be
standalone, or incorporate training and workshops, for example), then do
drop Chris an email ( for more details.

Showcase Update

One of the sections of the website that attracts very large numbers of
visitors is the Songwriters' Showcase, and Chris has been working hard
adding a number of new writers to add to the Showcase, so do check out
the new writers added recently, and if you are a songwriter yourself,
then you are welcome to submit your material for consideration to be
included. Intended as a "grass roots" initiative, the service is free,
and is designed to encourage and promote writing at the local level to
serve the church.

Humour spot

A car mechanic received a repair order that said to check for a clunking
noise when going around corners.

He took the car out for a test drive and made two right turns, each time
hearing a loud clunk.

Back at the shop, he returned the car to the service manager with this
note for the customer:
"Removed bowling ball from trunk."

"The Rising"

As the world was reflecting last month on the anniversary of September
11, I was very struck by this article, reprinted here by kind permission
of the author, Mark Green, from

The power of a song, or a collection of songs, to help heal an
individual, a city, or a nation is something that we're desperately keen
to discover in connection with the Rwanda album, which is one reason the
article struck such a chord with me...

"Bruce Springsteen has long been the troubadour of the common man, a
rock musician from a grim New Jersey town who never lost his love and
empathy for working class people and their struggle for meaning and
happiness. So, in the aftermath of the attacks on the twin towers and
the Pentagon, it is no surprise that Springsteen's new album, The
Rising, focuses not on politics but on the struggle of individuals to
come to terms with the loss of loved ones.

Grief is rarely tidy, and Springsteen explores a variety of different
emotions, through the eyes of a number of different people - a wife
struggling with the gaping hole in the heart left by her husband; a
father searching in his dreams for his dead son but finding paradise
empty. Certainly, there are lyrics which deny God, but overall The
Rising is a life-affirming and God-affirming album. One song confidently
booms that "One sunny morning we'll rise I know and we'll meet further
on up the road." Other songs move from personal pain straight into

"I pray for your love, Lord
with these hands
with these hands
I pray for the strength, Lord."

Similarly, the title track, The Rising, depicts a fireman's long walk up
the tower's stairs, past the dead, through death, into the presence of
God: "Lord," Springsteen sings, "I stand before your fiery light." This
is not just an ascent but an ascension, a rising, a resurrection.

The Rising has not only rocketed to Number 1 on both sides of the
Atlantic but has received high acclaim from music critics long-wearied
by lesser attempts to fashion art out of the tragedy. Here is a fine
work of art that transcends the horrors of that September day to bestow
on its hearers a moving meditation on grief and sacrifice, loss and
hope, agony and perseverance, death and the kingdom to come. It is a
work of art to be grateful for.

Humour spot

A pastor wanted to find out how the children were coming along in their
Bible classes. So he visited one of them to ask the children a few Bible
related questions. "Billy, tell me who tore down the walls of Jericho?"
asked the pastor.

Billy replied, very worried, "Pastor, I don't know who did it, but it
wasn't me!

The pastor left the room stunned at the lack of Biblical understanding,
and told one of his elders what Billy had said. The elder thought for a
moment and said, "Well, pastor, let me tell you. I know the boy and his
family real well. If he said he didn't tear it down, you can be assured
he didn't do it. I say we forget the whole thing and use the money in
the church building fund to rebuild it before anyone else notices..."

New Family Worship Songbook

For the first time, all of the songs from the Family Worship albums,
along with 40 new, previously un-published songs, are available in a
single songbook - the Family Worship Collection. Published by Kevin
Mayhew Ltd (publishers of the Source series of songbooks), the book is a
complete resource  for use in all-age worship, featuring a wide range of
songs that cross the boundaries between worship for children, youth and
adults. Also included are thematic and scriptural indexes, that can help
you find suitable songs for particular themes or occasions.

Containing 100 songs, the songbook costs 17.99 - we know it sounds
expensive (sorry!) but it does work out to less than 20p a song! It also
is the same price you would pay if you bought the individual songbooks
from the 5 albums to date, which would only give you 60 songs, whereas
the compilation has 100!

Also, we're now offering a special deal - buy the songbook and FW4 and
save 6!

Check out the details, including a full list of the songs (and some very
kind comments from Roger Forster and Graham Kendrick) at

Humour spot

A little girl was sitting on her grandfather's lap as he read her a
bedtime story. From time to time, she would take her eyes off the book
and reach up to touch his wrinkled cheek.

She was alternately stroking her own cheek, then his again. Finally she
spoke up, "Grandpa, did God make you?"
"Yes, sweetheart," he answered, "God made me a long time ago."
"Oh," she paused, "Grandpa, did God make me too?"
"Yes, indeed, honey," he said, "God made you just a little while ago."
Feeling their respective faces again, she observed, "God's getting
better with practice, isn't he?"
